Project work and interdisciplinary education

Your creative potential will be developed through complex project assignments requiring participation and technical knowledge, teamwork skills and knowledge of methods. The basic engineering subjects e.g. materials science, thermodynamics, mathematics, physics and chemistry will, to a large extent, be integrated in the basic subjects combined with engaging project work.

Problem-solving through evaluation of demands

You will be presented with problems having not one, but various possible solutions. The potential of a solution will depend on the evaluations you make and the technology you choose to focus on.

Teamwork creates self-learning

You will be working independently as well as in groups. Throughout the study you will to fill out different roles in the design- and innovation processes. This will develop and challenge your knowledge of your own and others' assignments, criteria and standards in the design process.

Fundamental and methodical courses

You will achieve a technical knowledge foundation in terms of mathematical and technical-scientific subjects, which form the basis for the engineering work in general. Furthermore you will acquire knowledge of the professional methods for designing new products and systems: Systematic generation and evaluation of concepts, technology analysis, stakeholder analysis, user study and competitor analysis, goal setting, conceptualisation, materials selection, as well as the evaluation of the total-cost and life cycle profiles of potential products.

Abilities in dialogue and teamwork

In addition you will be skilled in the preparation of design and development as a constructive process as well as a network process, in and between companies and groups in society. Your creative potential and your abilities for communication, teamwork and management will thus also be developed.

Creative synthesis of technological and social aspects

The design & innovation education combines technical-scientific and social-scientific subjects and competences. Emphasis is put on the creative synthesis of technological and social aspects of products, systems and service offerings.

A new way to study at DTU

The foundation of the engineering courses is integrated in practise-oriented subjects wherever possible, combined constructive project work. In this way we offer a Masters programme with a through engineering basis and focus on the use of technology in society.
